Pam Benoit

Pam Benoit comes from a family of artists, learning a deep appreciation of artistic forms and spending time in countless art museums.  She is a recent addition to the Birmingham community, accepting a position as the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at UAB a year and a half ago.

She has been painting for over 10 years and works primarily in water soluble oils and watercolors.  Her subject matter is diverse—flowers, landscapes, abstracts.  Pam’s paintings are an emotional expression and each is an experiment to see what could be possible.  Painting provides a unique way of seeing and allows her to explore color, light, negative space, and texture.  Painting is play:  it releases stress, encourages creativity, and allows her to use the right side of the brain.

Pam had a show of original artwork at the Edge of Chaos in March, 2018.  A collection of her watercolor cards can be found at the UAB Bookstore with proceeds supporting scholarships for First Generation students at UAB.

Inspiration

I was surprised to learn that as many as 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her lifetime.  I never expected to be part of that statistic.  As a survivor, I am grateful for advances in treatment and prevention and for the tremendous follow up care I have received at UAB. Tonight is my opportunity to focus on hope and to understand that each of us can help make a difference by supporting the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.
