The 38th annual ArtBLINK Gala will be back in person at The Kirklin Clinic! ArtBLINK is the main fundraiser for the Advisory Board of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Twenty local artists will create original works of art in 90-minutes, and guests will bid on them in a silent auction.

Money raised from the evening benefits the O’Neal Cancer Center’s Fund for Excellence, a fund focused on high priority research efforts.

Each year the board selects an ArtBLINK Director’s Circle honoree, someone who has contributed to the Cancer Center’s success greatly over the years. This year, the board honors Gray and Lee Thuston and the Thuston Family.

In addition to live artwork, the gala will include an eclectic dinner by IZ Catering and dancing to music by The Schmohawks. Décor by AG Events.

Tickets are $200 per person and can be purchased online here. To join our Director’s Circle and receive additional benefits, click here.

2023 Director's Circle Honorees, Gray and Lee Thuston

ArtBLINK 2023 Director’s Circle Honoree: Gray and Lee Thuston

This year, we are proud to honor Gray and Lee Thuston for their longstanding, significant commitment to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and Birmingham at large. Lee has served on the Advisory Board since 1994, holding numerous roles throughout his tenure including President (2000 – 2002) and Income Development Chair. His unwavering dedication to the Cancer Center and the health of the Birmingham community helped lay the groundwork for community investment in cutting-edge research and innovative patient care. Gray and Lee’s volunteer and philanthropic efforts at the O’Neal Cancer Center and throughout the Birmingham community have truly made an impact on the lives of countless individuals, and it is a privilege to recognize them for all they have invested to make Birmingham and the state of Alabama a healthier, more vibrant place to live.

Gala Invitation Artist: Sally Boyd

As an artist, the joy for Mrs. Boyd comes in the creative process. With an eye for color, texture and composition, combined with a background in interior and floral design, Sally naturally brings these elements to her work.

“I do not have to look far to find inspiration to paint for ArtBLINK. Although I have said before that I do not paint in front of people, I will for this cause. I am a survivor of Ovarian cancer. My mom is a survivor of bone cancer. I lost my dad to lung cancer and a very special aunt to stomach cancer even though she had been a 16 year survivor of breast cancer. Anything I can do to help the fight to cure cancer, I am in,” Boyd says.
