Amy is a native of Savannah, Georgia. She studied fine art at the University of Virginia, following with a Master of Science Degree in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia. After graduation Amy moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she and her husband, Sam Collins, began their professional careers. After several years of working in the healthcare industry, they started their own company, Art and Science, and have continued to provide illustration services to a variety of local and national clients.

“Having been a medical illustrator for over 25 years, I have had the opportunity to incorporate my artistic skills in a professional career, explaining scientific concepts through pictures. But over the last several years I have concentrated on one of my true passions – oil painting. My paintings are a reflection of my environment – places I’ve been and things I enjoy. People and animals often provide inspiration, and I try to define their individual personalities with expressive and loose brushstrokes. I focus on capturing the light and color nuances that occur at a certain moment in time. Whether in a landscape, a still life, or a figure, I want the viewer to share in that same moment.”

Inspiration

I have worked within the academic world for over thirty years, helping clients convey their messages through illustration. I’ve been fortunate to be able to create medical art- work that informs and educates patients, consumers and healthcare professionals. Art- BLINK gives me the opportunity to create a different kind of artwork that is even more personal. I believe that cultivating creativity is as important as sharing our own art with those around us. I hope that my painting will bring joy and inspiration to someone else while helping to raise money for the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Thank you for ask- ing me to be a part of such a unique and fun event!
