Joan Curtis

Joan Curtis

Cancer has touched all of us directly or indirectly. Because of that, I am inspired to help the “cause.” What better way to do that than painting!

Painting is what I do best – bright, colorful and most of all fun! May the joy painting brings to me be shared with you in watching me paint, and may it make you smile in the days to come if you take it home with you tonight.

It is hard to express how grateful I am for the incredible team of doctors and the world-class medical technology assembled right here at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Because I also work part-time as a nurse in the UAB Division of Pediatric Cardiology, I am so proud and honored to have the opportunity to be part of ArtBLINK.

Joan Curtis was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1974 with a major in painting and a degree in art education. For the last 38 years, she and her husband have lived and raised their children in Vestavia Hills. Mrs. Curtis is also a registered nurse and works part-time in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at UAB Hospital.

Mrs. Curtis shares her painting talents by participating in art shows and festivals around the Southeast. Her newest painting collection is full of vivid colors and delightful subject matter. The metallic drippings are poured in silver, gold and copper. The meticulous abstract drippings are interpreted to reflect what she knows and loves best: her family, her many friends, and the joy of flowers and travel.

The “Do Wa Diddy Collection” includes a series of funky people, colorful abstracts, fun floral, impressionistic cityscapes, and musical instruments.
