Mojo Weaver

Mojo Weaver

I’ll admit that the thought of painting for ArtBLINK brought hesitation and a resistance from this non-speedy painter to accept the honor. My paintings might require a several hours or several weeks!  However, the request came from my college roommate and friend of 50-plus years, Susan Williams. Susan’s cutting-edge treatment at the O’Neal Cancer Center eliminated her Multiple Myeloma. Through God’s grace and the wisdom of her doctors to find a perfectly brilliant trial treatment, we celebrate Susan’s glorious health. Her energy abounds and reminds me to be extra grateful for this opportunity.

Mary Jean Crenshaw Weaver grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. Influenced by family artists and with a great love for animals, Mojo had a persistent dedication to draw every animal she encountered as a child. During graduate school at the University of Alabama, she took art history classes and studio art with the renowned artist Al Sella.

Mojo spent 20 years most passionately devoted to her two children but included annual workshop instruction from numerous modern masters including CW Mundy and David Leffel. She now travels frequently to study with her favorite artists, drop in on figure drawing classes in New York and show her paintings in juried art shows. She has been featured in Portico magazine and Tuscaloosa magazine, and is an artist member of New York’s historic Salmagundi Art Club. Her portraits of pets bring her much joy and an overwhelming sense of gratitude to those who choose her to paint their beloved family members.

“I’m enjoying this passion for painting, drawing and exploration more than ever! While determined to grow and improve, I will always find intimacy with the simplest of creatures and settings. When light plays across any subject, I feel a spiritual sense of intrigue and am reminded of God’s creativity.”
